Dough: 1 cup whole wheat flour, 1 ¼ cup white flour, 2 tbsp icing sugar, ½ cup softened butter,
1/8 cup oil, 1/8 cup rose water (optional), 1 tsp baking powder, ¼ tsp vanilla, milk as needed
Filling: 350 g pitted dates (soak 30 min or overnight in 1 cup water), ½ Tbsp oil/butter, ½ tsp cinnamon – process filling ingredients by hand or in a processor to a paste or dough-like consistency (use a little of soaking date water if needed)
Toppings: egg wash (the following are optional to roll the finger in – sesame seeds, shredded coconut or finely chopped nuts)
