Information and referral services
We offer assistance with referrals, questions and accessing community information and resources over the phone and in person. We have pamphlets, books and parenting magazines for anyone to access.
- Information about child care options, including subsidies
- Child development information, informal assessment, links to more specialized services such as early abilities, health services, special needs, children’s mental health centres
- Support from our community partners, including health nurses, nutritionists, literacy specialists and other professionals
- Information and links on housing, food, employment training, social assistance, child abuse, health/safety and more.
Circle Time
During this special group activity, parent/caregivers and children share songs and rhymes, play rhythm instruments and/or read a story. It’s a time for listening, promoting oral communication and learning new skills. We run a weekly reading circle to encourage family literacy in an early learning environment, introducing pre-reading and early literacy through play, puppetry, props and other interactive activities. This is an opportunity for children to use their senses to explore with books.
Snack Time
We serve delicious and nutritious snacks to children every day. Our snack program encourages children to eat a variety of nutritious foods as well as develop many social skills, including developing routines, waiting their turn, asking for more and sharing. All snacks are free of tree nuts, peanuts and sesame seeds. Snack donations are accepted.
Resource Library
This is equipped with high-quality educational resources and books that maximize learning and enhance the caregiver/child relationship. Books on child development and parenting strategies are available to borrow.
Parent relief and occasional and emergency childcare
We offer temporary child care services for a negotiated time. Children are provided with a safe, warm and nurturing environment where they can interact and fully participate in early-year activities. This provides opportunities for parents/caregivers to attend appointments, look for employment, or simply to take a much-needed occasional break from their 24-hour childcare responsibilities.
Caregiver registry
We have a registry of caregivers available to parents who require care for their child/children. Names can be obtained at program sites. This is not a referral service. CMCP does not accept responsibility for screening care providers.
Parents are responsible for screening caregivers and monitoring the care of their child(ren).
